without visiting the branch. The process is simple and
fast, and you can apply anytime, anywhere.

How can I apply for a banking account via Citi Mobile
®App?
Please complete the application form on your mobile
and download the latest Citi Mobile®App
from your respective app stores to complete several
identity verification processes to open your banking
account.
Is there any charge for applying for a banking account

Why do I need to take photo of my HKID card from
multiple angles?
This will help us validate your HKID card, so that you
do not need to visit our branch in person for identity
verification. Please ensure the HKID capture is not
out of focus, nor blocked by glare or shadow.
Why do I need to take a selfie and blink my eyes
twice?
This will help us to validate you are the HKID card
holder, so that you do not need to visit our branch in
person for identity verification.
Do I need to upload any document, e.g. Address proof?
Yes, you need to upload address proof and signature
specimen during the application process via Citi
Mobile®App. If we need additional
information or documentation from you, we will contact
you and complete the account opening process.
Is my application information secure and protected?
All information, including your HKID photos, selfie
photos, personal information, username and password,
will be encrypted throughout the submission.
Why have I failed the Identity verification and need
to visit branch to complete the account opening?
Factors, including the environment where you take the
HKID photos and selfie, e.g. if there is glare,
scratches on or damage to your HKID, etc, may affect
the accuracy of identifying your selfie against the
HKID photo.
Tips for photographing your HKID:
1.
Hold the edge of the HKID and place it in the white
frame
2. Avoid glare and reflections until frame
turns green
3. For the second photo, please
ensure your phone's flashlight reflection is within
the red frame in the middle. The outer white frame
will turn green, and the capture is complete
Why do I cannot resume my application?
You application data will only be available for 30
days for you to resume the application. After that,
please submit a new application for account opening.
When will the banking account be ready for use?
Your banking account will be ready to use
approximately 10 minutes after you complete the
application process in Citi Mobile®App.
Stock Account: The securities services will be
made available to you within 3 business days after
receipt of your completed application via Citi
Mobile®App and required documents (if
applicable).
How will I know my application status?
We will notify you of the account opening status via
email and SMS approximately 10 minutes after you
complete the application process in Citi Mobile
®App.
Why do I need to input my personal information to
apply for a banking account?
You will need to input your latest personal
information for Citibank's record during your banking
account application process.
Do I need to open an account during business hours?
There are no time or place restrictions on opening
your banking account. You simply complete the
application form online and download Citi
Mobile®App to complete the rest of the
application, anytime and anywhere. It takes a minimum
of 10 minutes to complete the application process if
you meet the application criteria. (According to our
usability test, the majority of participants completed
the application of banking account within 10 mins,
excluding investment account.)
What’s a one-time password?
A One-time Password will be sent to you via SMS to
verify your identity for account login.
Where is my one-time password?
The One-time Password will only be sent to your
registered mobile number.
What do I have to be aware of during the registration
for facial recognition?
When taking the photo, you need to:
1. Look straight into the camera, and
2. Remove all the accessories (e.g. hat, sunglasses,
mask) , and
3. Position your face within the circle, and
4. Eyes must be at the same level as the camera,
and
5. Blink your eyes once to start the
countdown, and
6. Wait for the countdown, and
blink again for the selfie, and you are done, and
7.
Ensure adequate lighting with no shadows or glare,
and
8. Use a plain and clean background.
How can I resume my application?
"You will receive an email and sms with your
application ID and you can simply follow the below
steps to resume your application:
1. Open Citi Mobile ®App
2. Click on 'Open a bank account'
3. Enter your application ID which is sent to your
mobile number or email address"

ATM Card Activation and PIN set up
After my account is successfully opened, when will I
receive the ATM card ?
ATM Card will be dispatched upon the account being
successfully opened. Normally you will receive the ATM
card within 3 to 5 working days, excluding Saturdays,
Sundays and public holidays.
How can I activate the ATM card and set up ATM PIN?
You can activate your ATM card via Citibank Online or
Citi Mobile ®App by following the steps
below:
Citibank Online:
i. Login to Citibank Online
ii. Click on ‘Services’ and 'My Profile'
iii. Select ‘Activate ATM/Debit/Credit Card’
iv. Follow the instructions and submit the request
with One Time Password

i. Login to Citi Mobile ®App
ii. Click on ‘Profile&Settings'
iii. Select ‘Activate ATM/Debit’

Is there any deadline for activating the ATM card and
setting up ATM PIN?
Please activate the ATM card and set up ATM PIN at
your earliest convenience. The ATM card will be
cancelled if you do not activate it within 90 calendar
days.
What if I forget the ATM PIN?
You can reset the ATM PIN via Citi
Mobile®App by following the steps
below:
i. Login to Citi Mobile®App
ii. Click on ‘Profile & Settings’
iii. Select ‘Create/Reset ATM Pin’
iv. Follow the instructions and submit the request
with One Time Password
